"Grew up in the '90s with chiptunes on a C64, a PC with AdLib/Sound Blaster, a bit of Amiga.

Don't know much real music, but taught myself to transcribe by ear on anvilstudio.com, later directly on my piano-keyboard, and figure out SOME key-signatures.

It enables me to use musipedia.org (and perhaps imslp.org) to find a FEW classical or old pop songs. Quite some old games use them in very varying styles and quality.

No other tools, even Shazam doesn't work for me."

"What band was performing the known folk song 'Alle Vögel sind schon da' there in 1987 or earlier? No better quality or length available. No useful source info. (Definitely recorded by a teenager († 2021), probably spontaneously from TV as a joke.)"

Source: intro of 1989 computer game 'Avoid the Noid' that uses 13 songs, 10 already confirmed as classical. See comments for longer version and slightly more info! Source: ending of 1989 computer game 'Avoid the Noid' that uses 13 classical songs, 10 already confirmed (in correct key, too), like Chopin, Handel, Ride of Valkyries, Merry Widow Waltz etc. (According to the program files, the instruments are supposed to be a harp, a flute, and two clarinets... although these synth-sounds might as well have been chosen to sound more pleasant than accurate.) Funny, the song lasts 29.9 seconds. :) The click at the sample's end is really just a loop."

"Perhaps pop music from the first half of 20th century? Better see comment right away, the left sample is a cut-paste-mix. Arranged in early '90s for a German PC game. The sole developer doesn't remember what it is, except that he definitely didn't compose it himself."
