  This used to go out on Radio 1 between 14:00-17:00, 1973-1978.  He came back but I didn't listen to him during that period.  Too much Saxon.

  Unfortunately , we can't contact Alan Freeman himself since he is deceased (normal first line of enquiry with these kinds of things). Did he announce the track title bnefore or after the song, do you know?

  If that's the case that makes the search a whole lot easier. What I can tell you off-hand is that something tlles me this is a native American artist who was doing Country, or a Native American artist who was a country musician. There are a few of those, Billy Thunder Cloud, Gordon Lightfoot and one other one which slips my mind right now, although it's probably someone much, much more obscure.
