Majora101 commented 15min ago"In case it helps, we can confirm the part in question was sampled and not recorded by Depeche Mode. We have checked sample libraries and factory presets available to the group at the time for instruments including the E-mu Emulator I, II, and III, the Akai S-range of samplers, the Korg 01/W, and so on, so we can confidently state it is not a preset sound. The group was sampling many old records and CDs for this album, including many samples from Ennio Morricone film soundtracks. It's possible the brass sample is taken from either a seventies funk, soul, disco, or orchestral record, or possibly a film soundtrack by Morricone."
