Of course I've suggested the original composition, and there are a lot of different cover versions. Feel free to reject my proposal if you want to continue the search.
"i dont know about that proposal, it doesn't seem like it

Remember, Mr. Klein?
Paris, Roue De Bac.
Number 8, second floor.
You run upstairs,
You knock on the door
The door is open
Remember, Mr. Klein?
Paris, Rue Du Bac.
Number 8, second floor.
You run upstairs,
You knock on the door
The door is open
I wait for you
I wair for you
Night and day
The room is empty
The bed unmade
A cigarette burning,
In the ashtray
Your wife has left you
Cold shivers
Running down your spine
The water shaking
Wake up, Mr. Klein!
Wake up, Mr. Klein!
I wait for you
I wait for you
I wait for you
Night and day
You run on a street
Looking to every bar
Every west home
She's not there
You find yourself
Next to her telephone
You dial a number
The number of your wife
No answer...
No answer, Mr. Klein!
Send your conversation
Your conversation with the devil
You can't take it anymore!
You are running by the river
Standing of ??? revenge
The revenge ???????
The body of your wife!
The body of your wife!
I wait for you
I wait for you
I wait for you
Night and day
You have a knife in your hand
And blood is running down your sleeve
You killed your wife!
You killed your wife, Mr. Klein!
(Wake up, Mr. Klein!)

You did a great job, for which I am very grateful to you! From the very beginning I wasn't sure it was Leonard Cohen. Now it has been proven. The search continues :)

"No, that is definitely not Leonard Cohen's voice: the main giveaway is that the singer in the video has a distinctive accent, and his accent is very obvious in how he pronounces the words, thus it is absolutely not Leonard Cohen's voice. Leonard would never sing in a fake accent, and I am from Canada and thus very familiar with Leonard Cohen's accent, and I would not mistake it for the singer in this video.
Another factor to consider is that, although the musical and vocal style in the mystery song is certainly similar to Leonard Cohen's later music, you say that this song originated in the mid 1980s, and Leonard's voice did not sound like that in the mid 1980's, nor did his musical style sound like that at that time: listen to Leonard's "Various Positions" album from 1984, or the "I'm Your Man" album from 1988, and you can hear the difference. It seems to be a mere coincidence that this mid-80's song and its singer sound like some of the later songs by an older Leonard Cohen (and there is still the obviously different accent)."
So, i think my theory is now ruled out.
